There is a quiet, steady truth about drawing closer to the Lord: as your light shines brighter, the shadows try harder to intrude. Lately, it has felt as though the enemy is working overtime, rattling doors and trying every subtle trick to get me to bite the hook. When I choose to stand still and refuse the bait, the pressure only seems to press in a little firmer.
Yet, in the middle of the pressure, there is a deep and unshakable peace.
He has brought me through too many valleys, calmed too many storms, and poured out far too much grace for me to doubt Him now. I look around at my home, my family, and the everyday gifts filling our lives, and I cannot help but offer praise. Praise belongs on the mountaintops, but it is just as sweet and necessary in the darkest valleys—because even in the deepest shadows, we never walk alone.
Through this recent storm, Kevin and I have found ourselves leaning into the Lord with a depth and intensity we have never experienced before. Marriage in the quiet seasons is a blessing, but marriage refined in the storm reveals the true anchor holding it together.
God has woven a rhythm into our lives that only His grace could orchestrate. On the days when my spirit feels weary and I reach my lowest point, Kevin is given the strength to lift me up. On the days when Kevin feels the weight of the world, God grants me the steadiness to hold him tight and pull him close. We don’t hit the bottom at the same time, and that is not by coincidence—it is because the Lord stands right in the middle of our marriage.
He watches over our doorstep, protects our hearth, and stands guard over our hearts. No matter how hard the adversary tries to push, our foundation is set on the One who has already won the victory. All things are being worked out for His glory, and in His presence, we stand firm.
