My Reflection
If someone had told me years ago how much my health, my tastes, and my perspective would shift over time, I’m not sure I would have believed them. As a child and young adult, I carried physical challenges like asthma and migraines that felt like permanent fixtures of my identity. Today, those are gone. My palate has shifted just as quietly—simple foods and wholesome vegetables I once turned away from have become the very things that nourish me, while other things no longer hold the same place at my table.
Looking back on those physical shifts, I realize my spiritual life has moved through similar rhythms. Yet for a long time, I expected my purpose to remain rigid and unchanging. I assumed that once I understood what God wanted me to do, it would look the same in every chapter.
To be honest, I don’t think I truly began to realize my purpose until this past year—and even now, I still question things frequently. It is easy to feel uncertain when standing in the “in-between”—that quiet space where old roles have faded, but the new path isn’t fully visible yet. Questioning things doesn’t mean a lack of faith; it simply means learning to navigate a new landscape.
In the past, I often looked for loud signs or outside approval to validate where I was going. But I am learning that God rarely hands us a complete blueprint. Instead, He speaks in a still, small voice, asking only for our trust in the next step. The more I stop to lean in, listen, and simply practice quiet obedience in the small, unseen things—even when I don’t see the whole picture—the clearer the path becomes.
I’ve come to see that God doesn’t work in static lines; He works in seasons.
In my own life, I’ve felt His hand gently pruning away past ambitions, old routines, and former expectations. Sometimes that pruning is easy to welcome, but we also have to recognize that even good seasons come to an end. Those are often the hardest to let go of—the chapters filled with sweetness, security, or roles that brought us immense joy. It is tempting to cling to a good harvest, but if we stay parked in yesterday’s blessings, we miss the fresh work God wants to do today. Releasing a wonderful season isn’t a betrayal of what was; it is an act of trust in the One who holds what is to come.
As that pruning has happened, my spiritual appetite has changed too. Where I once thought purpose required grand achievements, I now find deep meaning in the quiet, ordinary grace of daily life: a steady prayer, a simple meal, a gentle word, or taking the time to listen.
I see this same divine design in the people who have walked alongside me. Some have been given for the long journey, while others were seasonal gifts—sent for a brief chapter to plant a seed, offer encouragement, or nudge me in a new direction before our paths diverged. Every single person served a purpose, and I am grateful for their time in my story.
If you find yourself questioning your direction or grieving a chapter that has quietly drawn to a close, don’t mistake that shift for a loss of purpose. It is simply the changing of a season. God isn’t asking us to have it all figured out today—He’s inviting us to listen closely, take the next obedient step, and watch the new thing He is doing unfold.
Key Takeaways
Clarity Follows Obedience: Purpose isn’t revealed all at once in a loud display; it becomes clear step by step as we listen to the still, small voice of the Lord.
Releasing Good Seasons Takes Faith: Letting go of wonderful chapters or past successes can be hard, but holding them with an open hand allows God to bring fresh growth in the current season.
Pruning Makes Room for New Fruit: Letting go of past roles or former expectations isn’t a failure—it is God’s gentle way of preparing us for where He is leading us now.
Purpose Is Found in the Ordinary: As our faith matures, our appetite shifts away from grand ambitions toward the quiet beauty of daily faithfulness and simple obedience.
Gratitude for Every Season: Every person who crosses our path—whether for a single chapter or a lifetime—is purposefully placed by God to shape our hearts.
Reflection Question
What is one small, quiet step of obedience God is inviting you to take today in the season you are currently in?
Prayer
Lord,
Thank You for the wisdom woven into the changing seasons of creation and of my own life. Forgive me for the times I doubt or try to cling to the safety of chapters that have drawn to a close—even the good ones that brought such joy.
Give me ears to hear Your still, small voice above the noise of the world, and grant me the courage to be obedient in the simple, everyday things. Thank You for pruning away old chapters to make room for what You are building today, and give me a heart that savors the quiet, ordinary graces of this present hour.
Thank You for every person who has crossed my path—whether for a brief moment or a lifetime—to shape who I am becoming. Help me to release yesterday with gratitude, and to walk faithfully into the purpose You have set before me today.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
