Finding Grace in the Quiet

The house is completely still, save for the soft, steady hum of the refrigerator and the gentle tick of the wall clock. Outside, the trees stand motionless against the quiet sky as the morning light cascades across the porch, casting long, warm rectangles of brightness across the floor inside.

I pull my heavy robe tighter against the morning chill and wrap both hands around my mug, letting the steam rise in quiet curls. After a weekend that pressed on me physically and emotionally, the sudden silence of this room feels almost startling. Just hours ago, my mind was full of noise, navigating hard things and carrying weight that left me drained. But here, in this quiet corner, the whirlwind finally stops.

My body feels heavy—a deep fatigue that a few scattered hours of sleep can’t quite reach. Yet as the stillness settles over me, the tiredness loses its sharp edge. It changes from a weight I have to carry into proof of a life fully poured out for the people I love.

In the beam of sunlight streaming through the window, I watch tiny motes of dust dancing quietly in the air.

This moment holds a profound, steady comfort. Beneath the exhaustion, gratitude settles in—deep, unhurried, and full. I’m thankful for my husband, who has always been my steady provider and protector, and who loves me to no end. I’m thankful for my children, for the deep pride and joy of watching who they’ve become, and for my grandchildren, who bring a fresh, pure light into my world. Every blessing God has given me in this life serves as a gentle anchor, keeping me fixed on what truly matters on this side of heaven—and grounded in the unshakeable assurance that Jesus loves me.

I take a slow sip, watch the sun brighten the porch, and allow the peace of this early hour to carry me into the day.
