“Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” ~ Galatians 6:2
There is a unique kind of heartache that comes from watching someone you love walk through emotional pain and spiritual struggle. As humans, our default setting is to step in, take control, and fix what is broken. We want to smooth the rough edges of a difficult situation and bring immediate resolution.
Yet, there are seasons where a human fix simply does not exist.
In those heavy moments, words often fall short. We find ourselves standing on the outside looking in, bewildered by others’ choices and struggling to understand actions that seem selfish or cruel—especially when directed toward someone vulnerable and unable to care for themselves. Our hearts ache at the injustice of it, and our minds wrestle with questions that have no easy answers.
It is in these precise moments that we are driven to our knees.
When our hands are tied, prayer becomes our most powerful action. We pray for peace that surpasses understanding to cover the vulnerable. We pray for wisdom and right outcomes in battles that feel far beyond our reach. And perhaps most difficult of all, we ask for the strength to let go of our need for control, trusting that God sees the entire picture even when we see only the pain.
Living out what is right isn’t always comfortable. True care and compassion often require us to step up simply because it is the right thing to do, not because it is easy or convenient. While we may never fully understand why others make the choices they do, we are called to hold fast to love, to show up in the quiet spaces, and to rest in the truth that God is present in every valley.
When you cannot fix the situation, remember that you can still cover it in prayer. God is close to the brokenhearted, and He carries what we cannot.
