Sipping Coffee, Sensing His Presence

“Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.” — Psalm 90:14

When I woke this morning, weariness fought me. Like everyone else, I had a long list of obligations waiting on the other side of sleep.

But as I lay there, prying my eyes open, I began with prayer.

Bills to pay. Groceries to buy. A home needing attention, a class to prepare for—the to-do list is endless. Yet I have learned that starting my morning with the Lord is essential. It sets the cadence for my entire day. Even on rushed mornings, I anchor myself in something small, if only a single verse and a short devotional.

Today, I was gifted extra time in the quiet. As the aroma of fresh bread and warm coffee wafted through the kitchen, His presence filled the space just as gently.

I didn’t always start my days this way. But now, I cannot overstate the peace it anchors in my life. The storms don’t disappear, but navigating them is different now—because I know He is holding my hand through the wind.

Looking back over my life as I gather memories for my book, I see His subtle hand in chapters where I thought I was alone. I allowed too many distractions to pull me away, and like so many, I sometimes wish I had understood sooner. But perhaps I simply wasn’t ready.

God is relentless in His pursuit of us. He was there then; He is here now, and He will always be. Reach out to Him. Let Him work. It is a decision you will never regret.
