I was talking to my neighbor the other day when I looked down and saw a perfect little dandelion looking up at me. Not a single seed was out of place. As I took a photo of her, I realized she was a perfect picture of our spiritual walk—and the question I’ve asked myself many times: Why don’t we just stay in that perfect faith we feel when we’re first saved?
The Yellow Bloom (The 28-Year-Old Me)
I remember getting saved at 28. I was so on fire that I’d walked into a convenience store and told the clerk the news! I wanted to tackle the world. But that “first love” excitement is often just the beginning.
The Season of the Storm (The Messy Middle)
As time went on, the newness wore off. I’ve often wondered why I couldn’t just stay in that bright yellow stage. The truth is, the world sucks you in. I backslid, I came back, and I did it again. I never really left Christ, but I wasn’t always putting into Him what He was putting into me.
But I realize now that those “backsliding” years were my training ground. You can’t have the wisdom of a seasoned walker without a few scars from the road. Like Peter, who failed and was restored, those stumbles taught me that His grace is deeper than my drift.
The White Seed Head (The Boldness of Today)
Now, as a “gray-haired lady,” I’ve reached the stage where I’m ready to scatter. I’ve stopped letting people get in my head or stop me from doing what God called us to do: spread the Truth.
I’m not worried about looking “pretty” or “perfect” anymore. I’m focused on the seeds. The Good News is simple: Jesus died for you. He still has His hand out, waiting for you to take it. It is the best decision you will ever make.
When you finally stand face-to-face with Him and He asks, “What have you done with My name?” what will your answer be?
Dandelions are everywhere. Where there is one seed of Truth, there is the potential for an entire field of new life. I’m choosing to be bold with my seeds while the wind is still blowing.
