In The Hands of The Potter

“Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand…” — Jeremiah 18:6

We rarely know when we wake up each morning who will leave an imprint on our heart by the time the sun sets.

Looking back over my own life, I can see the Master Potter’s hand in the good, the bad, and every quiet moment in between. God has intentionally woven people into my story at just the right second, using their presence to mold and shape me.

The Momentary Encouragers ♡

Some people step into our lives for just a fleeting moment, leaving behind a spark of hope right when we need it most.
I remember working in customer service on days when an unhappy customer would upset me, and I’d let it impact my mood. I tried to hide it, but the next caller on the line would softly notice it in my tone and say, “I hope your day gets better.”

It was a gentle reminder that I needed to check myself and reset my spirit — a stranger’s kindness, used by God to let me know I was seen and to guard my own heart.

The Faithful Friends ♡

Others stay for a season to teach us trust, comfort, or endurance.

Years ago, when I was a young single mother doing everything I could just to make ends meet, my best friend from high school would randomly send me $25 in a card with a note that simply read, “I’m thinking of you.”

There were moments when those random acts of kindness made me feel unworthy, and if I’m honest, I still struggle with that sometimes. Yet that small, faithful act of love during a hard chapter showed me God’s tangible provision, taught me what true friendship looks like, and gently reminded me that we are all worthy of the grace He sends through others.

Then there are those unexpected moments of connection — like a friend sending a text out of the blue, saying they felt prompted to pray for me today, completely unaware of the heavy burden I was carrying at that exact moment.

The Refinement ♡

Of course, not every person who enters our story brings ease. God also uses the difficult people — the sharp edges, the friction, and the painful interactions.

While those relationships are never easy, the Potter uses even them with purpose. They become the sharp tools that scrape away our pride, refine our character, and teach us the quiet strength of grace, forgiveness, and healthy boundaries.

As Proverbs 27:17 reminds us:

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

They reveal where our hearts still need healing and mold us into deeper maturity.

The Lifelong Anchors ♡

Most precious of all are the rare few in my life who crossed over from being friends to being truly like family.

My sweet friend from high school was one of the very first, but over the years, God brought others to follow. They have stayed for a lifetime, anchoring themselves in my story and reflecting God’s steadfast love and unconditional grace.

The Potter’s Hand ♡

It is easy to wonder why some connections are brief, some are painful, and others endure. But when we step back, we see the gentle hand of the Master Potter at work.

Yet, when we finally stand face to face with Jesus, the focus will not be on how others treated us or how deeply they impacted our lives. On that day, others won’t answer for our choices — we will.

The Potter gives us the clay, but we choose how we respond to the shaping.

In the Potter’s hands, nothing is wasted. Nothing is accidental.

Every person who touches our path is part of the refining process, shaping us for the final work He is bringing to completion.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for every person You have placed on my path — the momentary encouragers, the faithful friends, the challenging refiners, and the lifelong anchors who feel like family.
Give me the grace to learn from the difficult moments, trust Your perfect timing when seasons change, and cherish those who stay. Help me remember that I am worthy of Your love and grace, even when I struggle to believe it.

Keep my eyes fixed on You, knowing that one day I will stand before You face to face. Help me take ownership of my own heart, act with kindness, and live in a way that honors You.

Mold me as You see fit.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
